Flunk, Flunk, Flunk.....And Another One Bites The Dust
by Pam Green

Ten eager obedience handlers
arrived at the obedience trial.
All came to compete for trophies,
all wore a "sportsmanlike" smile:

Obedience handlers picked up armbands
and waited patiently...doing fine.
The first dog forgot his recall,
and then there was only nine.

Nine adorable obedience dogs
standing so quietly by the gate.
The next little dog fouled the ring,
so now there were only eight.

Eight interested obedience handlers
see the pretty trophies - "Ah, heaven!"
One forgot her dog's tennis ball
and now there is just seven.

Seven anxious obedience handlers
heard the AKC judge, "Shame...nix, nix."
One had snuck in the ring with bait
and now there were only six!

Six happy obedience canines
'til noisy kids with food did arrive.
Fifi wasn't trained with distractions,
and now that leaves only five.

Five nervous obedience handlers
one complained, "Just one command?  No more?"
didn't read the AKC rules
and now there is only four.

Four bold obedience exhibitors
talking about breeds that were a breeze.
"Her dog works well on the prong collar
so flunked with the greatest of ease!"

Three very smart obedience canines
one ring-wise and knew just what to do,
But he didn't want to work that day
And now there was only two!

Two so alert obedience handlers
one went to seminar--three in three weeks.
But inconsistent training caused tears
to run down her sunburned cheeks.

One confident obedience canine
working quite smoothly until he's done.
Consistent work really pays off--
Naturally, this dog won!

Ten tired obedience exhibitors
packed up, took their canopies down.
Nine had their many excuses
And only one didn't wear a frown!
